Four Simple Ways to be a Successful Work at Home Mom

3:53 PM

Hello mommies! You’ll notice me posting actively these days; owe it to the re-organizing of my client's website. My regular readers know me well, for those who are not; I'm a certified Work At Home Mom (WAHM). I write articles here about being a WAHM because I want to share things that moms would benefit from having a home-based job while taking care of her children. As much as possible, we want them to grow the way we want them to and because of this, most moms chose to resign from their respective careers and opted to be a hands-on mom.

I have nothing against being a hands-on mom because that's the best sacrifice that a mom could do to her children. From the very start, I was a hands-on mom to my three kids.  Being a hands-on mom is a very fulfilling role, the best role that a woman could play in her entire life and seeing your children grow healthy, bright and better individual is very rewarding.

Life is not always perfect, for families like ours who only has enough from the head of the family's income, it could be very difficult to stay at home while trying to budget a little amount for the whole family. This is why tried everything to be a WAHM, now I can consider myself a successful Work At Home Mom and I won’t be selfish to not sharing the helpful steps I used to becoming a certified WAHM.

Ways to be a successful WAHM
Discover your talent – I consider myself as crafty and a good writer, although it’s just a self-assessed characteristics, all I did was believe in myself. I started doing craft arts like weaving, sewing simple stuff, recycling the capture every finished product and post it to online selling site (I used sulit now Olx). After saving all the pictures, I got an idea to write descriptions and create a craft blog for it. The blog was not intended for commercial use, but it eventually became one as it gained views from crafty individuals all over the world, I got extra income from my blog’s advertiser. What I did was to discover my talent which are crafting and writing, and when I combined them together, I ended up being a craft blogger.

Use Social Media to monetize your craft and services – social media can do a lot to help you broadcast your craft and services. Try spending at least an hour to create ads about anything that you can offer. There are a lot of business ideas to choose from, it can be simple but profitable. One good example of a service to offer without allotting any amount of capital is selling services like travel packages, private resorts or real state. These types of services is free to start, all you have to do is build your connection with the property owners and settle an agreement that concerns commission for every successful transaction you arranged for them. This was my first service offered when I was starting my career as a WAHM. I coordinated with the resort owners in my place, post private resort photos in Facebook where I gained customers and earned extra income. Aside from services, you can also buy and sell using social media.

Post products and services to online selling sites – online selling sites like Olx.ph is one of the best ways to earn extra income while at home. You can sell anything at Olx, whether used or brand new, any kind of products and services are allowed to post in Olx as long as you are using your own content (ie. Product, photos, description)

Be a Freelancer – I started as a crafter, then I became a blogger (I still am), posted products to online sites and ended up being a freelancer.  All these are connected, because I was able to use all these in my portfolio in oDesk-Elance. Odesk-Elance is the largest online workplace for freelancers from all over the globe. They used to be different companies but merged to become the world’s largest online job site. Being mommy is one of the toughest roles that a woman could ever do in her entire life. It requires 100% of your time, patience and energy. I can really say that because I’m a hands-on mom who chose to give up my career to focus on taking care of my family. It is normal f for hands-on moms to feel boredom sometimes, insecurities and self-pity usually attack a person who used to be a successful career woman but shifted to become a full-time mom.

This is the main reason why I self-studied to become a freelancer. Freelancer is a common term for online worker who performs home-based jobs and is one of the most in-demand careers for stay at home moms. If you’re a hands-on mom who wishes to have a home-based job, well, you are not alone. There are many mothers who are wishing to earn income while doing a role of a full-time mom and wife. This idea is not too impossible although it really requires time to study the system of online freelancing.

What are the possible online jobs that fit to Stay at Home Moms (SAHM) - Jobs for a stay at home mom can be limited depending on her field of education, skills and interest. My colleagues who have experience in call center or BPO jobs apply for the same position and usually they’ll be hired as VA (virtual assistant).

If you think you don’t have enough experience to be a freelancer, well I want you to know that it’s not too late to learn, all you have to do is perform a self-study with the help of online tutorial sites and you’ll learn the basics.

What are the common online jobs for Stay at Home Moms?
Data Entry – is a task that requires a worker to enter data to data base, it can be a spreadsheet (Google or Excel). Usually, a client will require a data entry specialist to search the web for a specific to be entered in a given spreadsheet or shared documents. Data entry is one of the easiest jobs that you can find online; sometime it only requires you to copy and paste from one source to another. Although this task is considered as easiest, it can be complicated and time consuming that requires focus and patience.

Virtual Assistant – usually abbreviated as “VA” is one of the high paying jobs online. Virtual assistants are always put the contractor on call, does everything that the client requires. Some of the main tasks of virtual assistants are: receiving calls, calling clients, emailing, schedule her client’s events and appointments, reporting, data entry and others.

Writer – copy writer, ghost writer, article writer, blog writer are most common terms used to hire a writer. This is one of the common tasks that a mom can do online. It only requires English fluency mind creativity. Your opportunity as a freelancer cannot be limited to those tasks mentioned above, as I've said, it depends on your skills, experience and education. Some credible online job sites that offer home-based jobs are: odesk, Elance, RareJobGuru and Freelancer.
